July 9th
leave Mt Barnet – 7am (wow a lie in). Travel along the Gibb Rier Rd ( forgot to say this last time!). Stop on the banks of the Gibb river for smoko. Spot 3 bower birds in a Gubindge Plum tree
Look carefully on the left of the water & you can see a log – well actually a freshwater crocodile. Sorry I was not going to get closer!
Onto our new campsite at Home Valley
great meals again with lovely company. Quick walk up to the bar and music. Not for long though – in bed by 8 again ready for another early start
July 10th
leave Home Valley
Home Valley restaurant & bar
Phil & Liz leaving Home Valley
the Pentecost river crossing
We have an ongoing comp about how many river or creek crossings we will do – somewhere between 30 & 70. We all chose a different number (well apart from 2 who chose the same number)
through the Pentecost crossing. Onto El Questro our next campsite. On the way we took a 4K walk up Emma Gorge
Didn’t test it!!!
Lovely walk and swim
Drive into El Questro for a delicious lunch. Then onto the Chamberlain Gorge for a cruise up the river.
July 11th
4 of us took an extra flight over the Kimberley, the King George & Mitchell Falls. All I can say is wow!!! Amazing – this country is so big & isolated.
In the evening we went to Pigeon Hole to watch the sunset
What a glorious end to marvellous day. 6 days gone another 6 to go. More next time
What a wonderful synopsis of the first few days of our tour. Where on earth did you find the time to do this en route!!! Surely it wasn’t in the dark of night in your tent after ‘lights out’.
I just did jottings in my notebook. Then chose a few pics. Feel free to share with your friends & family if you want. We are at Fitzroy River Lodge – it’s a lovely spacious park on the banks of the river – with restaurant & bar!!! No cooking for 3 nights!!!
